An asphalt milling process can provide excellent repair and restoration that avoids the need for a more costly surface replacement or resurfacing project. It is also a fantastic option to regain a level and smooth driveway or paving. This can be a highly effective and cost efficient way to restore the beauty of all asphalt driveways and asphalt paving. A full resurfacing will sometimes be the better long term choice, but asphalt milling can often be the most economic option. Our asphalt contractors will quickly identify the correct solution and let you know if milling is the best path to choose.
What does Asphalt Milling Involve?
An asphalt driveway or pavement can become worn and uneven following many years of use and may need a little attention or repair. Asphalt milling can be an excellent choice of repair. The milling process involves the grinding away of the top layer of asphalt to leave a perfectly smooth and lump free finish. Once the top layer has been successfully removed a sealing layer can be applied to provide many more years of maintenance free use. This process can return your pathway or driveway to a perfect condition in a short space of time. For entire driveway or paving removal the milling procedure can be extended to completely remove all signs of the old asphalt. Resurfacing can then be conducted.
Can Asphalt Millings be used to create a new Driveway or Pavement?
All milling projects produce excess product but this doesn’t need to be wasted, this can be easily collected and recycled for use in new installations. Following a driveway milling and re-leveling project at the front of your property, the resulting millings can be used to cover an area of your backyard or create a new path for example. We can re-lay the millings, compress them to form a hard and strong surface, the addition of sealcoating will fully strengthen and level the new area. All millings can be completely removed from your property if preferred.
How do you mill Asphalt?
The milling of Asphalt involves the use of industrial machinery which can vary immensely in size, from extremely large machines for highway work, to relatively smaller machines for use with smaller projects. No matter the size, they all follow the same principle! A rotating drum covered with spike like tools will grind away the top layer of the surface to remove any lumps or bumps to recreate a perfectly smooth and flat area once more.
Is Asphalt Milling Expensive?
Asphalt milling can be an extremely cost effective restoration and repair choice to transform your driveway or paving. This can be a far cheaper option than a complete resurfacing or replacement. Asphalt repair should also be considered for smaller faults or crack filling!
